What Are Dental Implants?
The Benefits of Dental Implants
Unmatched Stability
Unlike traditional dentures, implant-supported restorations will never move out of place. Dental implants can help you eat, speak, and smile with confidence.
Exceptional Comfort
Your restoration will be custom-fabricated based on impressions of your unique features taken at our Columbus, GA, dental office. This helps prevent soft tissue irritation and ensures a balanced bite.
Improved Oral Health
Because dental implants fuse directly to the jawbone, they help prevent bone recession. Dental implants are the only restorative treatment in dentistry that can provide this benefit. Implants also prevent neighboring teeth from shifting.
More Attractive Smile
Implant-supported restorations designed at our office in Columbus, GA, are virtually indistinguishable from your natural teeth. They can also fill gaps in your smile that result from a missing tooth or several missing teeth.
Impressive Durability
If properly taken care of, dental implants can last a lifetime. The lifespan of your prosthetic will depend on the type of restoration and the material used to craft it.

The Hybrid Prosthesis The Best Solution for Full-Arch Restoration
Traditional dentures that look artificial and slip out of place are not the only option for patients who have lost a full arch of teeth. Dr. Helton can combine his artistic capabilities with sophisticated dental technology to produce a hybrid prosthesis, a custom-designed restoration that replicates the appearance and function of a natural dental arch. In certain cases, a hybrid prosthesis can be attached to as few as four dental implants.
Prerequisite Procedures
Bone Grafting
If we find that jawbone recession is precluding you from treatment, we may recommend a bone grafting procedure. During a bone graft, an oral surgeon will make a small incision in your gums and place grafting material to replace recessed tissue. Recovery usually takes around three months.
Sinus Lift
A sinus lift can help address inadequate bone tissue in the upper jaw, and restore your candidacy for implants. The procedure is similar to a bone graft. Bone tissue or grafting material is used to lift the sinus membrane to ensure that dental implants will not disturb these soft tissues.
Periodontal Care
If you have advanced gum disease, our Columbus practice offers cleanings as well as root planing and scaling to treat your condition. Scaling removes tartar and plaque below the gumline using special tools. Root planing smooths the root surface to prevent bacteria from attaching to the tooth in the future.

Nervous About Treatment? We Offer Nitrous Oxide Sedation
Fast Acting
Some forms of sedation take time until a patient can feel their relaxing effects. The effects of nitrous oxide occur within two to three minutes so you can feel relaxed and get started on your treatment quickly.
Wears Off Quickly
Nitrous oxide works quickly and wears off quickly. Our dentist may ask patients to remain at the office for about 15 minutes, so any potential side effects have time to wear off, but many patients can drive themselves home.
No Needles Involved
Intravenous (IV) sedation may seem intimidating if you don't like needles. With nitrous oxide, your dentist places a mask over your nose so you can comfortably breathe in the nitrous oxide gas. The process is safe and effective without being invasive.
Financing Is Available
The cost of dental implants isn't covered by insurance, but your insurance plan may cover or contribute to the cost of your crown, bridge, or denture. Our staff feels strongly about the positive benefits that dental implants can have and the long-term stability they provide, so we accept CareCredit® financing, which allows patients who qualify to make monthly payments at low to no interest.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Implants
Q. Does implant placement hurt?
A. No. Your oral surgeon will numb the area using local anesthetic. They might also recommend sedation options to ensure you are completely relaxed during treatment. Some discomfort is expected after your surgery. It can usually be easily managed at home with pain medications, a soft diet, and applying cold compresses.
Q. How long will my dental implants last?
A. Dental implants are made of durable titanium. These titanium posts are designed to last a lifetime. However, it is important to remember that your denture, dental crown, or dental bridge will wear over time and eventually need replacing. With proper care and maintenance, your restoration can last for 15 years or more.
Q. How much do dental implants cost?
A. The cost of your dental implant and restoration will vary depending on a variety of factors, such as the number of implants needed, the type of restoration, whether you use sedation, and the type of material your restoration is made of. In order to receive an accurate estimate, it's important to request a consultation with our team.
Q. I have some natural teeth. Will my implant-supported restoration match?
A. We will take special care to precisely shade-match your restoration so that it blends with the surrounding teeth. This is particularly important for front teeth or a single-tooth restoration. We can also perform cosmetic treatments like teeth whitening to enhance any remaining teeth and further enhance the appearance of your smile.
