Dental Crowns
What Is a Dental Crown?
Restore Your Smile With Same-Day Crowns
While traditional dental crowns are a trusted solution, typically patients must wait weeks for their permanent crown to be crafted by an off-site lab. That's not the case at Columbus Aesthetic & Family Dentistry.
In addition to traditional restorations, Dr. Brett Helton offers convenient same-day crowns. Our Columbus, GA, office uses the advanced CEREC® system to create crowns on-site while you wait. In as little as an hour, your beautiful and durable crown will be ready for placement.
Is a Same-Day Crown Right for You?
/
Same-day crowns are a great option for many of our patients. Our same-day crowns are all-ceramic, providing a natural-looking, discreet restoration. While this material works well for many patients, it may not offer the durability and strength required in certain circumstances. For example, patients who suffer from temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder, which causes clenching and teeth grinding, may need the added strength of a metal crown crafted off-site.

Crowns vs. Other Restorative Treatments
Fillings
Fillings are used to replace a relatively small amount of decayed dental tissue. Our Columbus, GA, practice offers tooth-colored fillings made of composite resin for a natural look and feel. However, if a significant amount of tooth structure needs to be restored, a dental crown may be a better option.
Inlays and Onlays
These porcelain restorations can replace more tissue than a filling but less tissue than a crown. Inlays are typically used to replace part of the chewing surface of a molar. An onlay is used to replace part of the chewing surface as well as some of the outer edge. As with fillings, an inlay or onlay is not able to address as much damage as a crown.
